Recently, I’ve been designing and producing heraldic tabards using a company that prints fabric on demand. The idea is to create regalia that is relatively inexpensive, machine-washable, and looks good for court and field use.
Below are pictures of An Tir and Ealdormere heralds wearing tabards designed by me.
I completed a full set of kingdom tabards, as well as a few of the principalities. With the distribution of these tabards, I’ve been contacted by local branches and individuals who want tabards of their own.
If you are interested in commissioning a tabard, I am happy to help you out. My policy is as follows:
Kingdom and Principality tabards should be ordered through your principal herald. I don’t want to be responsible for regulating the use of royal regalia!
Cost for the design:
Type of Armory | Cost |
---|---|
Local Branches (Baronies, Provinces, Shires, Cantons, etc.) |
$50 |
Individuals/Households (arms registered) | $60 |
Individuals/Households (unregistered armory) | $75 |
My standard design can be seen above, and includes a continental-style tabard, four pennon blanks (to make two pennons) and a baldric, all in the same arms. Other tabard shapes and accessories are available upon request for a negotiable rate.
Cost for printing:
Each tabard fits on two yards. I recommend a lightweight cotton twill for most tabard needs. The company’s rate for this fabric as of this writing (5/21/2024) is $29 per yard, or $58 per tabard. Standard shipping rate is $7, and tax is dependent upon where the fabric is being delivered.
A tabard order for a branch with a 9.25% tax rate is approximately $125.
Requests for tabards will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are still interested, please fill out the form linked below.
